Principal's Message

Dear Magnolia Families,

Welcome to Magnolia School and the 2018/2019 school year!   I am excited to begin my time at Magnolia getting to know the students and their families.  I have been employed with Upland Unified for over 25 years and have been an elementary teacher, assistant principal, coordinator of Educational Technology, and most recently the principal of Foothill Knolls STEM Academy of Innovation.  My adult sons attended and graduated from Upland Unified also.  I have a passion for innovation in education and ensuring our students are ready for their future.  This will be a year of me getting to know the Magnolia family and how I can support its commitment to excellence.

You will notice several changes around campus, especially in the front office.  The office was painted over the summer and new banners installed displaying our Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) student character traits.  The ball walls have also been decorated to reflect these positive traits.  They will be used school-wide to reflect and support positive behavior.  More information will be shared about this during the school year which will also be reflected in the changes to the behavior section of our website.  Magnolia is very fortunate to have Mr. Goussen and a strong staff team leading this implementation.

Magnolia has a shared partnership between home and school and our staff is looking forward to having your family join our school community.  At Magnolia, our vision statement captures our dedication to lead students, parents, and staff as a community of learners. Our belief is that all children, when given a carefully planned curriculum and effective instruction, can be competent and confident learners. Our expectation is that students and staff meet academic standards, recognize and appreciate individual and cultural differences, and effectively learn to resolve problems.  We will also be implementing year two of AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination).  This promotes a college-going culture and prepares students to be successful as they advance through  K-12 and higher education.

School is your child’s place of work and learning is serious business. Please help your child develop good attendance habits by bringing him/her to school on time every day.  Children who arrive at school at 7:35 AM (9:45 for Late-Bird Kindergarten) have time to visit with friends and relax before the busy workday begins.  The tardy bell rings at 7:50. Students arriving after the tardy bell must get a pass from the office.

I would like to thank you all in advance for all the wonderful contributions you will make to the students and staff at Magnolia. I look forward to a successful school year together; making great academic growth, developing fantastic citizens, and strengthening our school community.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Wavering
